Detailed Specification

  • High strength composite construction.

We use a combination of Glass Reinforced Plastics and high Tech Materials such as Coremat and Steel to ensure that the shell of the Ridgeback is stronger than any hardtop on the market. The shape and detail of the Ridgeback have been very carefully thought out to increase the rigidity and strength of the shell.
  • Solid GRP Rear Door, gas strut assisted.

The rear door has been designed to be stronger and stiffer than the aluminium doors used on other hardtops. The trick is in the shape and the construction. There is no flexing of the door when opening and closing and unlike other Tops, it can't be bent along the bottom edge, making it extremely secure. There is no glass as standard to further increase security.(Glass is available as an option).
  • Secure slam latch locking system.

Many commercial hardtop available use an old-fashioned twist handle and locking rods that wear easily and corrode. The Ridgeback employs a slam lock system similar to that found on every car door. Simply lift the ergonomically designed handle and the door pops open. Close the door and the locks automatically latch into place. A simple turn of the key locks and unlocks the Ridgeback. The handle also includes a fully weatherproof hinged flap which protects the lock from road salt and dirt, a feature not found on any other hardtop.
  • Ergonomic handle design.

The Handle on the Ridgeback has been designed to ensure that the operator can use it easily with one hand and the lightest of touches. It is operated with the palm of your hand face down, a more natural position than palm-up. A minor detail, but one which makes opening the door much more comfortable. The handle has no exposed metal components, thereby eliminating typical corrosion problems.
  • High Gloss exterior finish in white.

Our patterns are polished for weeks prior to going to making the GRP moulds. This ensures a finish which is extremely high gloss and reflects the finish on your vehicle. It is simple to paint and/or signwrite with your company logo.
  • Smooth interior finish – no loose fibres.

The interior of all Ridgeback hardtops is finished with the same gelcoat as the exterior. As a result there are no loose fibres to give operators splinters. This makes the interior simple to wipe down and clean.
  • Simple clamping system for easy installation and quick removal.

The clamping system for the Ridgeback doesn't require any drilling of the vehicle, and allows the hardtop to be installed and removed in minutes with just the use of a spanner. There is a sealing angle which fits at the front of the load area which is pre-cut to size and drilled ready to be riveted to the vehicle. This is a permanent fixture, staying in place when the hardtop is removed. This is the only part of the assembly which requires a small amount of drilling.
  • Reinforcing ribs in roof with flat area for beacons & auxiliary lighting.

On many hardtops, the installation of a roof vent or beacon to the roof requires the strengthening ribs to be cut (if they have them!). The Ridgeback has a flat area in the roof, perfect for installing accessories. The surrounding ribs don't need to be cut and therefore the structural integrity of the roof is maintained.
  • Installs without removing cab protection guard.

The cab protection guard found on vehicles like the Toyota Hilux H2 is an integral part of the design of the vehicle and should not need to be removed (cut off with a hacksaw) to allow a hardtop to be installed. The Ridgeback is designed to be installed with the cab guard (sometimes called ladder bar) intact. The design allows clearance around the cab guard and unlike many tops on the market, you will not hear any squeaks or rattles against the back of the cab, even when driving on rough terrain.
  • Concealed hinges.

The rear door features concealed hinges, making for cleaner lines and protecting the hinges from the abundant salt and dirt that we find on our roads in winter. Many hardtops have exposed hinges which can soon fail under winter conditions.
  • Steel reinforcing plates to locking area.

The rear pillars are reinforced with 3mm Zinc Plated Steel Plates which extend from the locking area to half way up the pillar. The body parts of the locking system are then attached to these plates, ensuring that the rear pillars are at maximum strength. This increases security and reduces wear and tear on the locking parts.
  • 3 year warranty.

All Ridgeback hardtops are covered by a 3 year warranty. For full details of the warranty, please consult our Downloads page from the menu at the top of this page.
  • Large internal capacity – c. 3.1m3

The shape of the Ridgeback allows for the maximum load area without the need to have a high roof line. The design utilises the space available by taking the roof line over the cab. Traditional commercial Tops have a 45 degree slope extending backwards and upwards behind the cab. This dramatically reduces the available space and limits the insertion of large boxes.
  • Fitting Time approx. 30mins.

It really couldn't be easier to install the Ridgeback. We provide simple instructions with supporting photographs and the clamping system ensures that there are no holes drilled in the top edge of the vehicle loadbed. The seals are already fitted to the Ridgeback and each one comes with a full installation kit.
